Farce (first of three parts)

Posted by special_child at 04:48 AM on March 3, 2006 as a favorite post.

My brain is better now, so prepare for a long entry.

According to dictionary.com, a farce is a light dramatic work in which highly improbable plot situations, exaggerated characters, and often slapstick elements are used for humorous effects. And since almost everything's a farce nowadays, let me show you a big farce that has developed as long as the Philippine republic was born.

This first of three parts relates with the activities that are happening in the Philippine democratic government today. With all the events presented to the Filipino people from the past week, my mind has been going berserk as to reacting about every wee bit, but then again there was an imposed deadline on thesis and stuff, so now that I have the smallest of chance I'm letting out my sentiments.

My stand since June of last year had been for the president to resign. And from that point forward, there wasn't anything that had pushed me to change it. There are some influences that made me appreciate and applaud what she is doing as part of her job (economic reforms and the push to pay the Philippines's debt), but I think there are greater things to consider. From the unfolding of a lot of events, it seems that PGMA had been keeping a lot of skeletons in her closet. But to get to that closet, you'd need to break through a number of security systems, including that which I'll post in my two Top Ten lists (take note: TWO!). What's fun is that it just looks natural to her, as if she doesn't care or is too tired to care about what the people are saying.

Blocking the impeachment only brought about one truth (at least it did): The representatives had shown that they are doing their job... of keeping the truth from the people and keeping their loyalty to the president. Giving out fertilizer funds for representatives without arable lands only brought about more questioning as to its real intentions. Declaring EO 464 only brought about more issues of Malacañang covering up various inquiries. Pushing for no celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the EDSA revolution only brought about more speculations on her paranoia for power. Proclaiming 1017 only brought about more turmoil even from the president's allies themselves. Raiding The Daily Tribune's office only brought about a flashback of Martial Law through curtailing press freedom and doing things without warrants. Showing up for that Liberal Party "elections" only brought about more politicking when even she herself is calling for its stop.

Now that I see it, it's really a weird coincidence that Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Bill Clinton were former classmates. Both did good in improving the economies when they became president of their respective countries. Both were filed an impeachment case, but both survived it. What's different is that Clinton had an affair as his basis, while Arroyo had an affair with power and a string of wrong decisions.

It's nice to know that the international community recognizes the Philippines as one of the countries where democracy is at its finest. But there are means the chief executive is doing to put a stop to it. Let's face it... all the world's a stage, as Shakespeare said. In this farce called Philippine Politics, there would always be a protagonist and antagonist. Personal vendettas are illicitly shown but elicitly given. And even audience participation is given its limits. This analysis comes to show that people are really vigilant when it comes to this issue of politics and everything negative that comes with it. But this is the paranoia that should be followed, and not blind paranoia - paranoia for something that is completely pointless.

A Tribute To Women

Posted by special_child at 03:01 AM on March 8, 2006.

Ah... women.

From what I know, there are more women in the world than men (this one's just based on gender). The average longevity of women is greater than that of men. All of us came out of a woman. But despite these, and how women are equally matched for the world as men are, there are still a lot of discrimination and inequality for women.

From what I've experienced, moms are the best parents. My best friend is a woman. My soulmate is a woman. I am trying to let go of a woman who's been circling my mind for almost six years now. I'm accepting a woman who's been special to me the past year. And I've learned about a woman who's trying to let go of a love born a year and a half ago.

I still think women are the most complicated people in the world. It's not really right that they're moody or emotional or overly bubbly at times. But then again, they're that. There might be things women can't do, but what I'm sure is that there are things men can't do without women. It might be that we are hard in conversing with women, but believe me women are the easiest topics of conversations between men. And despite their hardships and pain, they become the most resilient of people, rising up to the challenges life continuously throws at them.

As part of the celebrations for International Women's Day, let me share this wonderful song.

She's Always A Woman To Me
performed by Billy Joel

She can kill with a smile, she can wound with her eyes
She can ruin your faith with her casual lies
And she only reveals what she wants you to see
She hides like a child, but she's always a woman to me

She can lead you to love, she can take you or leave you
She can ask for the truth, but she'll never believe you
And she'll take what you give her as long as it's free
Yeah, she steals like a thief, but she's always a woman to me

Ohhh... she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants, she's ahead of her time
Ohhh... and she never gives out
And she never gives in, she just changes her mind

And she'll promise you more than the garden of Eden
Then she'll carelessly cut you and laugh while you're bleeding
But she'll bring out the best and the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself 'cause she's always a woman to me

Ohhh... she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants, she's ahead of her time
Ohhh... and she never gives out
And she never gives in, she just changes her mind

She's frequently kind and she's suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases, she's nobody's fool
And she can't be convicted, she's earned her degree
And the most she will do is throw shadows at you,
But she's always a woman to me

Ohhh... she takes care of herself
She can wait if she wants, she's ahead of her time
Ohhh... and she never gives out
And she never gives in, she just changes her mind

A Tribute To Women (part 2)

Posted by special_child at 03:40 AM on March 16, 2006 as a favorite post.

I'm posing another moratorium on my Farce entries.

Since the last post talked about women (and my second Farce entry would talk about another very different aspect that's somehow related to women), I'll just continue with the theme. It's also sad considering that making this entry only means that the third Farce entry would be SO delayed... I think by the time I post it, it's a month behind. But who cares.

This entry was triggered by the fact that I heard (unexpectedly... and from a very annoying radio station) a memorable song. Majority of the people who know my life story know what the song is. It just rushed back a lot of memories to my mind, and all I could say was... "Wrong timing." To you, the forceful entity behind the powerful song, all I can say is... "I was over you. Well... almost."

Last time, I presented how women can be women. This time around, I'd be sharing a list containing the fruits of my creative juices. It might be fictional, it might be true. I might have already said it, and I might have held on to it too long. It may be true for one alone, it may also be true for all. But one thing's for sure. All of them came from my mind (see the previous paragraph's last sentence as an example). Oks? Well then... let's go!

Top Ten Dialogues My Mind Did For Women

10. Ok lang ba kung hingin ko number mo? Wala lang...
9. Mas mahirap pakawalan ang taong kaclose mo lalo na kung minsan sa iyong buhay ay para na ring naging sayo siya.
8. There was a part of me that was really depressed, seeing her with someone else. Lalo pa na parang abot-kamay lang naman sya. At mas lalo pa dahil sila (she and her bf) ay nagsimula lang sa patukso-tukso lang. Sama diba? (yes, I was redundant here)
So I kept minimalistic.
5. Things changed. My reality changed. My outlook in life also changed for that short span of time. And I never imagined the impact it gave me would linger for years.
4. Guess what? Since nagkasabay ang birthday mo at ang pagtapos ko ng first ever "short" story ko... I decided I'd give you the first copy. Wala lang... consider this a present.
3. You advised me to follow where life takes me. But why does it have to take me to you every single time I try to forget you?
2. I think I have fallen for you.

-and... (drum roll please)-

1. At lalong hinding-hindi ko makakalimutan na sa buhay ko, may dumaang isang taong nakapagpabago sa aking pananaw sa buhay at nagturo na kahit anong mangyari... ang puso ay marunong umibig.

It's fun to sort through stuff again. It makes me feel blessed over and over.
