What It Takes To Be A Celebrity

Posted by special_child at 03:18 AM on July 15, 2005 as a favorite post.

This title serves as double-purpose.

Since it's the time of austerity everywhere, and since in this country politicians become celebrities and vice-versa, I decided that the title befits this entry. On what grounds? Well... just read and see. But everything celebrity-related would be seen on the Top Ten List. The next few paragraphs would be strictly political.

After my stand (which is resignation), then came the Brothers' stand, and then the SC. Other LaSallians, I might have no idea. But whatever. I'm sticking with my stand. In relation to the domino effect of the Brothers' declaration of support for our dear leader's resignation, two significant people showed up at our doors to give us some enlightening on the situation.

First on the list is Archbishop Oscar Cruz. This Ph.D. holder and shepherd of Lingayen also is the key to what's in and out of jueteng, the infamous backdoor gambler's haven. Last Tuesday, he discussed the different ranks of jueteng, how the government hasn't spoken about jueteng in any manner, how huge the payoffs (better known as payola) are, and other matters, including his sacristan, which he allegedly abused sexually.

Just a few hours ago, Professor Randy David of the Sociology department of UP Diliman went to La Salle to give a talk on the crisis. Here he discussed more about the tapes and the story that revolves around the primary characters of the tapes.

What's great about these people is that they know how to talk and entertain the crowd. At least they weren't that dragging. Even if I'm soooo tired of listening to different views on the crisis, they made it as light and meaningful as possible. But the point is still there. A lot of good ones are in David's lecture, actually, including the fact that "it doesn't take an astrophysicist to say that the tapes are authentic", "we don't have to wait for anybody before we should take our stand", "we have a very good Constitution, but we just don't know how to implement it that good", "believe me, I have read the Constitution... I don't know if the likes of Senator Lapid, Senator Estrada, Senator Revilla... have read the Constitution, because there they would know how a senator should be working",and "amidst this crisis, the center of attention suddenly shifted from Katipunan to Taft Avenue".

In my opinion, David's lecture has cleared my speculations. I now am more convinced as to why I took my stand. I think that most of the undecided people or people who refuse to take a stand or people who do not call for her resignation are afraid of what might happen next, if ever she (in a situation that she says is "impossible to happen") resigns from her office. The matter on who's to replace her might just be one major qualm in the minds of undecided people now. Many things have to be changed, but if we don't start with what we see now, when will we? Why do we have to wait for some false hope before we take a stand? We are a young and dynamic country, and this is what makes it exciting, at the cost of our economy and monetary capability. But in the long run, David still shows that we should have hope for our country. Just like my friend Patrick's post. And this alone makes his lecture not derogatory.

Top Ten Things To Consider Should You Want To Be A Celebrity

10. watch Pepot Artista (see Mito's link)
9. know the who's-who in the circuit of stars (cheers if you know a director and a producer)
8. get a fanbase, especially in crowded places (go Starstruck Avenger!)
7. be a freaking b*tch sometimes (like director Gil Portes hehehe)
6. link your name with other stars and "stars"
5. face Boy Abunda's "mirror"
4. know when and when not to: place Eye-Mo, pout your lips, put on concealer, wear fake eyelashes... the list goes on
3. consider politics as an alternate career without it meddling in you being a star/"star"
2. win some awards (in their stellar performances, Susan Roces gets an Oscar, GMA a Razzie)

-and... (drum roll please)-

1. for the audience's sake... know how to act!

Any reactions and comments are always welcome. You may also ask me on what transpired in the lectures of both men, in a much detailed form.

Marvin the Martian™, jaz thinking aloud

P.S. I hope this ends soon... for the best of everyone.

ahh. for me competent leaders should govern. resignation is not the solution. when the opposition was asked what is their plan if PGMA leaves the palace, to this context they say: "saka na namin pagplaplanuhan". patay.

only Ninoy deserves to the the president. or even Yoda. or even Palpatine, because he is good planner.

Well... being anti-leader doesn't mean being pro-opposition. They (the opposition) lack a true leader. Unlike the former "people power revolution" where then vice-president GMA stood as leader, now nothing's happening.

I still wonder how our country would be if Miriam Defensor-Santiago became president. I think she just went berserk after she lost (suddenly) to FVR.

she lost her sanity to be precise. :-D she is also a good one. but still i prefer the great Ninoy. i read the 20th death anniversary article on him on people, and it made me admire him more than ever. his ideals and principles are very good (understatement).

sayang at pinatay siya. and still his killers are roaming free and corrupting the government.
