Stargazing

Posted by special_child at 04:41 PM on July 5, 2005.

Now who'd think Mondays are gloomy?

Yesterday was just an ordinary day. After work I decided to go to Timezone and play Dance Maniax 2 again, even though I've already played it during the weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). SO while I was playing, I saw three tall guys battling it out in Time Crisis 3. One of them looked familiar, so I just tried to see who they were.

It turns out it's Rob Duat and two other players. The others also looked familiar, but sadly I don't know them. Haha. So as obvious as butterflies flock nectar, girls were just staring at them, Timezone loader girls were just too enthusiastic to load his card, and so on. In a country where basketball is a premiere sport, well... it's hard not to be a celebrity if you're a basketball player.

So after that encounter, I was already heading home, when the premiere screening of Fantastic Four just ended. Doors flung open and out came more showbiz personalities and the elite. Hahaha. So much for the rain pouring outside: there were stars, "stars", and black holes.

There was Julia Clarete in her yellow halter top and jeans - she looked sweet and beautiful. Onemig Bondoc was also there, chaperoned by a girl. When I turned to the escalator, I saw Dennis Trillo wearing a pink shirt who's also accompanied by a girl (girlfriend or friend, who knows? ) Then there's the ABS matinee idols, such as Emman Abeleda, Carlo Aquino, Ketchup Eusebio. Also, Railey Valeroso (not familiar if his surname's spelled correctly) was there; he and his girlfriend in utmost PDA. RJ Ledesma, both an elite and a showbiz personality, was also there. And there was Bianca Gonzales, with her boyfriend, also sweet and cute as a couple. There were also a lot whom I don't know by name.

So what did I realize after this encounter? Haha... that they're not as tall as they seem. Hahahaha. Well, I'm taller than all of them, save Railey and (obviously) Rob. But whatever. In this country where being a showbiz personality is like being an elite for a period of time, you can't seem to see how famous they are recognized by people - even if their careers are idling.

Blogger's Note: The Top Ten List had found nothing to place here. Overwhelmed, maybe.

As for me, what I realized is that they're still ordinary people. They just have a social status higher than most.

P.S. This is also the reason why I got home so late yesterday.

What It Takes To Be A Celebrity

Posted by special_child at 03:18 AM on July 15, 2005 as a favorite post.

This title serves as double-purpose.

Since it's the time of austerity everywhere, and since in this country politicians become celebrities and vice-versa, I decided that the title befits this entry. On what grounds? Well... just read and see. But everything celebrity-related would be seen on the Top Ten List. The next few paragraphs would be strictly political.

After my stand (which is resignation), then came the Brothers' stand, and then the SC. Other LaSallians, I might have no idea. But whatever. I'm sticking with my stand. In relation to the domino effect of the Brothers' declaration of support for our dear leader's resignation, two significant people showed up at our doors to give us some enlightening on the situation.

First on the list is Archbishop Oscar Cruz. This Ph.D. holder and shepherd of Lingayen also is the key to what's in and out of jueteng, the infamous backdoor gambler's haven. Last Tuesday, he discussed the different ranks of jueteng, how the government hasn't spoken about jueteng in any manner, how huge the payoffs (better known as payola) are, and other matters, including his sacristan, which he allegedly abused sexually.

Just a few hours ago, Professor Randy David of the Sociology department of UP Diliman went to La Salle to give a talk on the crisis. Here he discussed more about the tapes and the story that revolves around the primary characters of the tapes.

What's great about these people is that they know how to talk and entertain the crowd. At least they weren't that dragging. Even if I'm soooo tired of listening to different views on the crisis, they made it as light and meaningful as possible. But the point is still there. A lot of good ones are in David's lecture, actually, including the fact that "it doesn't take an astrophysicist to say that the tapes are authentic", "we don't have to wait for anybody before we should take our stand", "we have a very good Constitution, but we just don't know how to implement it that good", "believe me, I have read the Constitution... I don't know if the likes of Senator Lapid, Senator Estrada, Senator Revilla... have read the Constitution, because there they would know how a senator should be working",and "amidst this crisis, the center of attention suddenly shifted from Katipunan to Taft Avenue".

In my opinion, David's lecture has cleared my speculations. I now am more convinced as to why I took my stand. I think that most of the undecided people or people who refuse to take a stand or people who do not call for her resignation are afraid of what might happen next, if ever she (in a situation that she says is "impossible to happen") resigns from her office. The matter on who's to replace her might just be one major qualm in the minds of undecided people now. Many things have to be changed, but if we don't start with what we see now, when will we? Why do we have to wait for some false hope before we take a stand? We are a young and dynamic country, and this is what makes it exciting, at the cost of our economy and monetary capability. But in the long run, David still shows that we should have hope for our country. Just like my friend Patrick's post. And this alone makes his lecture not derogatory.

Any reactions and comments are always welcome. You may also ask me on what transpired in the lectures of both men, in a much detailed form.

I found and read the contents of this link, as it was linked by one of my friends in his recent post. I'm also linking it. It was posted by Blogger user drunkonthemoon. Go look at this post archive and read whichever suits you: whether it's "Ode To Nice Guys, By Some Sad Guy" (which I enjoyed very much) or "Ode To Nice Girls, By Some Sad Girl" (this link I'll email to my best friend Gretchen).

Come Together

Posted by special_child at 03:52 AM on August 1, 2005 as a favorite post.

Huwaw... it's as if I saw a LOT of people this week.

Some comments first. I have carefully planned out an itinerary for this week, and less than 50% of the original had been done on time. Some of the things originally scheduled for this day had to be moved to another day just because of it. Oh my. Am I becoming this lazy/sleephug/late?

About the week that passed... Monday wasn't supposed to be a leave-house day, but I joined mom in going to SM Bacoor. Tuesday was duty day for me at Green & White, and I met some people who had difficulty climbing up and down Chair 1 and Chair 2 (scenario: the doorknob got stuck). Wednesday was kinda disappointing, because I went to a quiz bee that didn't push through. Thursday was pictorial day, and it went crazy and fun. Friday was also a hectic day, but I got to go to UP and meet people. Saturday was Cavite day - I just went to Mito's pad and ate BBQ and also said "Hi" to everyone, including his aunt who just arrived a week before. Yesterday was a blast, for I found Joyce (at Seattle's Best), Nina and RC (at G4's escalator), and Sterling Ty (ST, C2t6, at Dulcinea) all in Makati.

The last two Fridays were really uncommon for me, because aside from spending it alone from 9 onwards (the hours before 9 I was with my best friend Gretchen), I didn't actually enjoy. Haha. Not even Mito was there for the Midnight Madness. Surprising.

Last Saturday night was also a venue for me to look at my previous works and think, "Why the hell did I decide to give every one of my high school classmates a sonnet?!" Though it seems stupid, I think I've produced a lot of outputs (sonnets, trivia question lists, short stories, mini-plays, scribbles, copied notes, letters, etc.) and some of them are cute. If I have time, I'd post some of them here.

And oh! It's already August! Hooray! Even more exams and projects. And I haven't started on that stupid reaction papers... even if they were part of the itinerary, they were so damn boring, and I haven't had the time. Tsk tsk. On the lighter side, it's a new month for uploading pictures, getting and spending money, and exploring more things.

This entry's Top Ten List owes its deepest gratitude to Angelina Guevarra, who inspired me in planning my own ideas. Thanks, Ange!
