The Cake... And Its Icing

Posted by special_child at 03:28 AM on November 13, 2004.

It was really surprising that I went to school yesterday (that's CCS Day!), having no idea of what to do before 6pm. Normally I would have signed up for games, manned booths, participated in almost all activities, spent my money over a lot of goodies, and exhausted myself out before the real fun begins. Seems to me that it's not gonna be like last year.

I arrived at 1 having nothing to do but to wait for 6pm. So what did I do? I...

* went with Zeena to the Central Plaza;
* watched Anne and Mae do the Mario, while someone pointed out a "strategy", which was easily deflected by RJ;
* walked by Becky's and bought boxes of cherry walnut fudge and Tofifay®;
* whooshed with Mito to the NCR office of DOLE to get a tumultuous number of working permits;
* wasted time with the security guard when she asked me to "leave the brownies at the Security office and pick it up before you leave", while the other gate's guard was too apathetic to inspect it;
* washed away my hunger as Mito and I ate food at SPS, where the "part-time job" was born;
* waited for a long long long time outside William Shaw Little Theater only to know that only 160 people are allowed to go inside, and I am not included in that number; and
* worried that I won't get some edibles from the Food Fest, but realized there was enough for everyone.

Thus ends the first half of the day.

When night arrived, and the food was already consumed, the Culminating Event started. We (Anne, Stef, Paolo and I) stayed outside WSLT and watched through the projector broadcast. Many things happened, but it was the SRO thing that made me feel so bad.

The funny thing was... sometime in the middle of the show, they allowed us to go in, but we were asked to squat at the sides. Come to think of it, we weren't standing. We were squatting. Does this mean if there are no seats in a conference, you can just squat your way inside?

Another funny thing was that DO of the Term (that officer always looking for violations from anyone maybe for him to become DO of the Term) wasn't able to answer the question when we asked him what the purpose of the SRO policy was! Imagine! Tsk tsk tsk... X-(

But all of this was lost when South Border came up on stage. And I end up feeling happy all along.

Top Ten Shockers for the Night

10. The bus I rode going home had "manual wipers" (the conductor had to go down every stop for him to manually move the wipers. Pathetic.).
9. Squatting was allowed, and from what they (the DOs) did yesterday, it seems that this is a possible solution for the SRO problem. Oh so clever.
8. Another solution to the SRO problem? ISR broadcast. With a webcam and a booming audio. Coz the only thing you could hear is a boom, like that ultra-low sound from boomboxes.
7. I came this close (insert action for describing an inch or two here) to South Border.
6. Two professors/lovers were partying at their seats the moment South Border played "Yeah".
5. Instead of waving hands, waving cellphones were seen, capturing pictures and recording videos. A subtle shocker.
4. Ms. Kai and Sir Cons do know how to party. They stood up from their seats and danced with the crowd!
3. Carissa won 2nd runner up in CCS Icon. I would like Kai to win that award instead, but they based it on the finals performance only.
2. Eds won 1st runner up in CCS Icon. Her overall performance is, I think, the weakest among all finalists, and even her "winning performance" wasn't winning enough. Again, that's for me.

-and... (drum roll please)-

1. Because of #3 and #2, Jacob did not win any award, except for a consolation and some pictures. Andrei deserved to win, but Jacob was nonetheless deserving for a second place finish.

That's it! Whew... first post is long. Cyah guys next time.

P.S. I wish to write the DO a letter regarding that SRO thing. Tsk tsk tsk. And even the PFO or anyone concerned regarding the use of Yuchengco theater. Anyone dare help me? :-/

Whew!

Posted by special_child at 02:36 AM on November 17, 2004 as a favorite post.

This *wipes sweat off my brows* was sure a nervous and tiring day! Hehe... just a few hours ago, I pulled of my stint of being a reporter in that OS Masters' class. Damn! While I was speaking in front, the three teachers (the actual teacher and the other two teachers who were my blockmates for the course =p) were talking, and I can't help but feel more nervous. The nerve! The prof (of the course) was even imitating my hand gestures!

Well for some part of our lives, we were the ones mocking people who were speaking in front, so what the heck.

At least I got through that task. And I have to show my eager smile for that!

Fast facts! Later I will have an exam for probability, and before that it's the season premiere of Amazing Race 6! So go watch! After everything that will happen tomorrow, Mito and I are heading off to Greenbelt to watch "The Incredibles". We are interested on what the Filipina (forgot the name) did in this film.

Whew! (part 2)

Posted by special_child at 02:07 AM on November 18, 2004.

Besides the fact that I got to watch the live telecast of the series premiere of Amazing Race 6 and the latest Pixar movie The Incredibles, there was nothing better that happened today.

From a quick-paced exam in probability distributions, to an irritating game (if you can't get it, and I didn't, not after that exam) of Harry's World, to a tiring walk through the bustling streets of Quezon City, I think this day was one of the most demanding days I have had in the past week. My feet are still aching, my head's still spinning (not an exaggerated Linda Blair kind of spin), and my eyes are still droopy. I have to have some rest!

Full Day... Saturday!

Posted by special_child at 03:14 AM on November 21, 2004.

This post will have its part 2 if the happenings next Saturday are that exciting.

Today was our ORIENT2 meeting. It will last for 2 Saturdays, the first being a few hours ago, the next one is on the 27th. I was surprised that the session today was sponsored by the LSPO, since I thought it was purely based on our future careers. Well, it was purely based on our careers; the main purpose of LSPO is to help students identify themselves and check where they stand in life.

Now I know what Myers-Briggs is (there is a dialog box in Tabulas's profile that asks for your Myers-Briggs)! MBTI is a personality test designed to know your main characteristics and attitudes. Mine is ESTJ. Know more about my Myer-Briggs here.

After all the day's work for ORIENT2 day 1, Joseph, Allan, Rex and I decided to watch a movie in ATC. After all the traffic, rain, and commotion, we got in time for the 5:30 P.M. screening of National Treasure .

This movie, I think, takes the opportunity of riding with the craze over The Da Vinci Code. Although the movie is good, it can be easily deduced that it is oh so fiction. Tsk tsk tsk... some of the facts there can also be found on Dan Brown's book (the number one bestseller for, I dunno, 72++ weeks? And counting?), and it is known that the next Brown book would be about the Masons (which, by the way, is the focus of the movie's plot).

It has a star-studded cast though (imagine placing Seth the angel, Frank Abagnale, Sr., Captain Von Trapp, Helen of Troy, and Odysseus/Boromir all in one film!), and it would really enlighten you in American History and some other branches of world history. But I think casting Nicolas Cage for the role of Benjamin Franklin Gates is weak. Hehehe... a younger actor with the same caliber as his would do great for the role. But Cage's performace was nonetheless splendid. I hope this would also be true for Tom Hanks, who apparently got the role for Robert Langdon in the movie version of The Da Vinci Code. See this article for details (and our ideas are in synch! )

More Yesterday Than Today (?)

Posted by special_child at 02:03 AM on November 28, 2004 as a favorite post.

I said that the previous post would have a part 2 if ever it happened well. Sadly, this is not part 2. You know what that means.

This week was really a no-no for my leisure life. It's this week that I didn't get to watch a movie, when there are three new flicks that opened last Wednesday. Aside from the common MP bickerings and all sorts of stuff that dear CCS gave me, there wasn't really much left for me to talk about.

It was happier yesterday, when Mito and I, together with his aunt Nina and her companion, just ate to our heart's, stomach's, and appendix's content. It was really an eatout, and I thank tita Nina for that.

Plug-in: Moments before we left the place, Nancy Castiglione arrived with a bunch of people and the supposed Paolo-Contis-replacement. As usual, people's eyes started to wander around a particular spot. Blinded by stardom, I guess.

As I said, there was nothing interesting today, save for that on-the-spot "fashion show" (thank God there was no fashion emergencies in what I wore... subukan lang nila, magaling atang manamit to!) and that job interview with Congressman Ramon Ang. That facilitator Ms. Kleenex was really such a bore, she can easily replace Delilah in killing Samson. Death by boredom.

And so I thought that this day was really much of a bore as opposed to what happened yesterday. Damn I was wrong.

I have never felt this happy since the monthsary. I am oh SO lovestruck.
